RADISH
The thought of sowing radish seed brings back childhood memories for countless gardeners who were given this vegetable to grow as an introduction to gardening. Probably the easiest and quickest vegetable to grow. Nowadays though the range includes; Japanese or Mooli radish, the traditional winter radish and a variety grown for its tasty seed pods. Little and often is the best policy, from February under cloches through the summer at 10 days intervals to September and October back to cloches for a regular supply of small fresh roots. Sow in shallow grills 1cm deep in rows 15cm apart. Aim for a plant at every 2cm. Sown too thickly and if not thinned they will run straight to seed. For winter varieties sow from July onwards and harvest as required during the winter.
