Weedkillers delivered! 2010 has seen some real developments in the weedkiller market. Traditional systemic weedkillers such as Roundup are still available of course but now leading manufactures including Westlands, Scotts and Bayer have all introduced fast acting weedkillers which show noticeable results in a matter of hours.
Weeds are generally fast growing and will thrive in pretty much most types of soil. They are not only unsightly but also compete for any available food and water and provide shelter for a number of garden pests and disease. Early spring is the best time to make a start on weed control in the garden. As the weather starts to warm up annual weeds quickly germinate and colonise bare ground, while perennial weeds start into growth.
Hoe off any annual weed seedlings as they appear. Always hoe when the soil is slightly dry and on a sunny day so that the decapitated seedlings will quickly wither. Dig out any perennial weeds making sure to remove all the roots as they can quickly re-grow from a small piece left behind. Tackle perennial weeds such as bindweed, dandelions and docks as soon as they start to grow vigorously.
