Description
Found on a wide range of plants, these insects suck the plant sap which weakens the plant and causes the foliage to discolour and deform. Aphids produce a sticky deposit (honeydew) which turns black on plants. Control with Ladybird Larvae with release bag. For introductions in trees. Hang the bag in the tree canopy. Use regular introductions (2-3 weeks) between May and August. Control with Adult Ladybirds. A well-known beneficial insect to gardeners. On release they will fly to the nearest aphid colony to feed on aphids and other pests. Adult ladybirds will also feed on the eggs of moths and other pests. Adults will lay more eggs and produce a second colony. If used on trees use insect barrier glue to prevent ants climbing. Use regular introductions between May and September for effective control.
