Parma Violet (Italy, 1903)
Large, navy blue double, scented flowers, sometimes with a red fleck at base of petals. Long stems. Slightly later than Marie Louise. Vigorous growth.
Parma violets flower from late winter to early spring. They were extensively grown for the cut flower market in France, the flowers are also edible & ideal for crystalisation. They are half-hardy so are best grown in pots so they can be brought under cool glass protection for winter where they prefer to have drier soil. Like sweet violets they require winter sun & shade in the summer and like to be grown in humus rich, moist but well drained (neutral - alkaline) soil. We also recommend planting them with 'Rootgrow' for best results.
We also have a smaller number of over 70 other varieties of violets from all over the world, so please enquire if you are looking for a specific variety to add to your collection.
