Houseplant care in the Summer
With the increase in heat during the summer months, you'll need to monitor your houseplants more closely to ensure they thrive.
Here are Mrs. Groves' top tips for maintaining perfect houseplants...
Watering
Longer, warmer days mean plants need more water. Water in the morning if possible and with rainwater as some houseplants can’t toletate the chemicals and salts in tap water.
Water thoroughly - let the water drain out of the bottom of the pot.
Humidity
Houseplants love a humid climate. Mist the leaves create the humidity. Especailly for ferns and calatheas.
Temperature
Avoid excessive heat and sunlight, keep it ideally between 18 - 24 degrees.
Light
Strong summer sun can burn leaves. Move plants away from direct sunlight or provide shade, especially for those that prefer indirect light.
Moisture
Check soil and water when top 2 inches are dry.
The only way is up! Vertical gardening is ideal for balconies, making use of walls, upright supports and cleverly designed planters to turn even the smallest space into a little green piece of paradise.
